Eastern Connecticut Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative: The Connecticut Department of Labor and their local partner, the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board, received a $6 million WIF grant to bring to scale a customized training program, the Eastern Connecticut Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI).  MPI addresses the need for skilled trades-workers by providing short-term options to unemployed and underemployed workers unable to attend longer-term training. 

Southwest Employer Resource Network Expansion:  The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research received a $3 million grant to expand the reach and assistance offered to employers through an Employer Resource Network (ERN). The Southwest Employer Resource Network (SWERN) brings together small to medium sized business to create a joint venture that links and leverages talent development resources across the Network. Membership fees fund a case manager known as a “success coach”, who works on-site at the business to help reduce costs associated with hiring, turnover and absenteeism, and to help employees resolve work-related issues and overcome personal barriers in the work environment.
