Youth with Disabilities and the Workforce Development System

Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) a larger effort is needed to encompass the broad spectrum of business engagement strategies and activities that are needed for unique business solutions in local and regional communities across the country.

Enhancing Business Engagement

ETA seeks to enhance the business services strategies employed by states and regions by providing technical assistance on new sector strategies partnerships, and emphasizing the need to customize solutions for each individual business situation. 

The initiative will create a network of national sector and industry strategies for workforce intermediaries that are sharing and supporting each other by leveraging the significant body of business solutions knowledge already available.

Business Engagement Collaborative Website

The Business Engagement Collaborative Community of Practice provides cutting-edge resources, modularized content and facilitator guides on a variety of topics and tools that will help frontline staff engage and assist businesses, including competency models, Labor Market Information (LMI), and use of social media.

The series of resources and training modules define business services based on employer solutions, and workforce needs in today’s economy.

           Workforce System 101: Eight New Online Training Modules

Small Business Development and Partnership Toolkit

This toolkit is designed to assist you in building strong partnerships between the workforce development system and small business-serving organizations to strengthen small business development, business retention, entrepreneurship and self-employment in your community. 

Employment and Disability Resources for Businesses

The Employment and Disability Community of Practice offers employer resource guides that were developed with an employer focus and were designed to educate employers, hiring managers and supervisors about proven strategies for hiring and retaining individuals with disabilities. 
 
These tools (such as the 30-Second Trainings and Resource Guide) provide valuable information to support employers in hiring qualified workers who experience a disability, including strategies and resources that can assist in effectively accommodating all employees in achieving their maximum potential and productivity level. 
 
The easy-to-use resources can also assist in accommodating and retaining existing employees who experience onset of a disability.
