PLG Call: Generating Veteran Career Pathways Through Apprenticeships and Enhanced Business Services

Thursday, July 14, 2016

3:00 PM ~ 4:00 PM ET

The N.C. Division of Workforce Solutions has developed collaborative strategies to engage employers, expand and enrich apprenticeship opportunities with a specific focus on generating career pathways for enlisted and Army veterans.

This call will explore how a collaborative mind-set and re-configured office space led to a highly successful integrated services program delivery approach benefits multiple customers.

Discussion Questions:

  • What steps did you take to integrate your key programs for improved service delivery?
  • If other states, regions wish to follow your lead with services integration, what should they consider?
  • How do you measure success – examples?

I attended the event and asked the question about the percentage of apprentice trainees who secure permanent positions to which the answer was 100%. Wow!!! While listening, I heard a statement about the jobs being North Carolina jobs rather than belonging to workforce entities within NC. With an apprenticeship program as successful as yours (100%): a) will you consider training veterans who hail from states other than of NC; b) other than the PLG call, will you consider training SWA's around the country; and c) on a lighter but serious note, how are you going to handle the massive influx of unemployed and under employed veterans to NC once your program becomes common knowledge?
